Maile annouinces Sports Challenge Benefit - | Inside Sport Africa ...

The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in conjunction with Ultimate Sporting Concepts announced the Gauteng Sports Challenge Benefit in Johannesburg today.

This exciting Challenge will see the Vodacom Bulls returning to the venue of their famous 2010 Vodacom Super Rugby triumph when they face off with the MTN Golden Lions at Orlando Stadium on 2 February 2013 in the Gauteng Rugby Cup which forms part of the Gauteng Sports Challenge Benefit.

The Vodacom Bulls will officially kick off the Blue Bulls Rugby Union?s (BBRU) 75th Anniversary Celebrations in the Gauteng Rugby Cup at Orlando Stadium next February.

Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile says this match will reignite the jubilation experienced in 2010.
?We are looking forward to re-living the euphoria, excitement and anticipation that we experienced during 2010 when professional rugby returned to Soweto. The Gauteng Rugby Cup is all about sport for social cohesion.?

The Gauteng Rugby Cup will bring back fond memories for both Unions and their legends from the first ever encounter contested by the newly-formed Northern Transvaal Rugby Union against Transvaal on 18 April 1938. This trip down memory lane for past and current players will be the highlight of an action-packed outing at Soweto?s Orlando Stadium which will also feature an exciting list of festivities throughout the day.

Nhlanhla Ngwenya, Ultimate Sporting Concepts Managing Director, says the stage is set for another unforgettable rugby experience in Soweto.
?We are delighted to partner with the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and the Golden Lions Rugby Union to bring the Gauteng Rugby Cup to the Soweto community and to all rugby fans at large. Bringing this game to Orlando Stadium two years on from the Vodacom Bulls stunning Super 14 victories is indeed special and more so because we will be staging the Gauteng Rugby Cup in Soweto for the next two years.?

The Vodacom Bulls defeated former champions the Crusaders 39 ? 24 in the 2010 Vodacom Super 14 semi-final and then went on to clinch the title with victory against the DHL Stormers in the final at Orlando Stadium.

Barend van Graan, Blue Bulls Company CEO, explains the significance of the Gauteng Rugby Cup which officially launches the Union?s 75th Anniversary celebrations.

?Playing the Lions in Soweto accomplishes many objectives for us; it is a return to the very beginnings of our Union, the game will be played in honour of our legendary players and will also lay the foundation for another successful 75 years of Bulls rugby. Having played a significant role in the recent successes of the Vodacom Bulls, we felt it was essential to return to the Stadium that proved to be our lucky charm in the 2010 Vodacom Super 14 season. The Soweto community is one that is passionate about rugby and was unrelenting in their support of our team in 2010, and recognising this enthusiasm for the Bulls is why we wanted to kick-start our 75th Anniversary celebrations back at Orlando.?

Van Graan and his opposite number at the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU), Acting CEO Ruben Moggee, were pleased with the announcement that the Gauteng Rugby Cup would be hosted by Orlando Stadium for the next two years.

The MTN Golden Lions are now on a journey to reclaim their Super Rugby status and Moggee says this fixture gives their loyal fans the opportunity to see the team in action.
?Both Unions have rich and proud histories, steeped in tradition in the South African landscape, but history aside, this 75th Anniversary match is our way of helping our neighbours prepare for their Super Rugby season while also ensuring that our fans are able to watch our team in action in the months preceding the 2013 Absa Currie Cup competition.?

Previous Super Rugby and international Test matches in Soweto have not only sold out but also proved to be resounding successes. Jacques Grobbelaar, Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) Chairman and CEO, says the Soweto community is extremely passionate about rugby.

?There are no resident professional rugby teams in Soweto which means our community is quite starved of rugby action, but when we do host matches here, such as the 2010 Super 14 semi-final and final and the Springbok test matches against New Zealand at FNB Stadium, we have had overwhelming responses to these games. Watching the Vodacom Bulls in action at Orlando Stadium, two years after those memorable victories in 2010 and for the next two years will be special moments for our community.?

In celebrating its 75 year history, the BBRU has a host of festivities lined up for the entire year starting in January 2013, with something to cater for every member of the Bulls family on the cards.

This fixture is subject to confirmation from the City of Johannesburg. More details on ticket prices, gate opening times and a match day schedule of events will be available in due course on www.thebulls.co.za.

Celebrities safe from roving paparazzi drones ... for now

Featured

23 hrs.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ found itself on the other side of the rumor mill Tuesday morning, after a story claimed it?applied for a surveillance drone permit from the Federal Aviation Administration. This news comes just as the FAA pushes back its deadline for selecting drone testing sites, citing for the first time its concerns over privacy.

But fear not, famous people!

Stacked in between posts about Jared Leto?s lack of eyebrows and ?ELMO ACCUSER #3? is TMZ?s denial, ?We?re NOT Keeping Up with the DRONESES.?

?We don?t have a drone ? we don?t want a drone ? we never applied for a drone,? the post reads, in part. ?Truth is ? while drones are, in fact, awesome ? it just ain?t true.?

The?San Francisco Chronicle?added a correction to the online version of its domestic drones story, which initially?contained the faulty fact. Tech, privacy and gossip blogs referencing the claim updated their posts as well.

Even the FAA issued a statement, assuring celebrity targets and their concerned fans that "TMZ does not have FAA authorization to fly an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), and we have no record that TMZ ever requested or inquired about an authorization."

But here?s the thing. Faster than TMZ could?refute the?drone accusation, plenty of people had no problem imagining that TMZ wanted one ? and?a few were?maybe?a little surprised to learn the ace gossip gathering institution doesn't have a drone?over Kanye West even now.

??Of course we were ready to believe,? said?Professor Matt Waite, the trailblazer behind the Drone Journalism Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

If there?s two sure things, Waite told NBC News, it?s that, one day, ?paparazzi will use drones way they use helicopters, people on motorcycles, long telephoto lenses and anything else that gets a shot that brings them a bunch money.? The other, nearer sure thing? ?Significant lawsuits.? ?

This would explain the FAA?s reluctance to allow just any ol? person to cruise over crowds with what is, pretty much danger-wise, a million-dollar flying?lawnmower.?

Drones and journalism have great possibilities. From Fukushima?to Gaza, unmanned surveillance drones can help reporters gather important information without risking their lives.

Drones are valuable environmental monitors as well. This year,?the Drone Journalism Lab used an unmanned aerial vehicle to document Nebraska?s current drought, said to be even worse than the 1930s Dust Bowl. Aerial shots of the state?s desiccated landscape ? dry fields, dead grass and dying trees ? tell a story that?flow charts recording (the lack of) rain inches just can?t. ??

But celebrity stalkers piloting swarms of drones could wreak unprecedented havoc, the likes of which haven't been seen since?helicopters?cursed the extravagant cliffside wedding of Sean Penn and Madonna back in 1985. (Google it, kids!) Topless royals and hapless Lohans would be at the mercy of GPS-controlled Predators.

So for now,?universities, the military and police departments ? as well as drone manufacturers ? are the only groups the FAA considers eligible?for domestic drone licenses. Universities don't have the funds for drones that can fly for much more than 15 minutes, let alone maintain course in a five mile-per-hour wind.

You are right to?be concerned about your privacy, though,?even if you?re not a famous person. It's just that the privacy concerns of the moment?center around those eligible government agencies.?

"Drones have the ability to carry all types of surveillance ?equipment,"Jennifer Lynch, staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, told NBC News.

"Basic video cameras, infrared cameras, technology to intercept communication. The larger drones purchased and flown by the federal government can fly so high you can?t see them." Drones operated by the feds can fly for days, and take photos that are way better than what you see on?Google Earth, Lynch added.

"A lot of concerns raised with surveillance drones are not new," Lynch said. ?We would have similar concerns about an area blanketed by security cameras or technology that can intercept cellphone signals."

For all that?the EFF and other?advocacies,?such as the American Civil Liberties Union, know about drones, how that information is used and stored by the government is mostly a mystery to all but insiders.

In October, following what it says were ignored Freedom of Information Act requests, the Electronic Frontier Foundation filed suit against the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to find out why the DHS loans out Predator drones to police departments across the country. A similar suit against the FAA resulted in a steady drip of information the EFF updates on its website, along with a map pointing out where drones are located.

While the FAA was quick to quell misinformation about TMZ's lack of a drone, it hasn't been so forthcoming with information about who does have them. Part of the problem, Lynch said, is that the FAA must talk to the agencies its licensed before it makes that information public.?

"The whole point of issuing licenses is so we can see what's going on in the air at any given time," Lynch said.?"It's unusual?for such a transparent association to keep the information on drone flights so secret, and it's very difficult to?evaluate the privacy and free speech concerns about drone flight without the information about who is flying drones right now."?

Well, at least we know it's not TMZ.?One day, the skies may be abuzz with paparazzo-copters training their 360-degree cameras on wardrobe-malfunctioning?starlets?or spawning?Kardashians. For the time being though, thanks to the FAA, it'll still?just be?dudes on scooters.

Helen A.S. Popkin goes blah blah blah about privacy and then asks her to join her on Twitter and/or Facebook. Also, Google+.?Because that's how she rolls.

CSN: Any sympathy left for Andy Reid?

November 27, 2012, 2:00 pm

gonzalez_byline_new.png
After the Eagles stumbled to yet another bad loss ? this time at home against the lowly Carolina Panthers ? Andy Reid made another walk of shame. He entered the press room at Lincoln Financial Field from stage right and addressed the media. The coach absorbed shot after verbal shot in the form of questions discharged without regret. It might as well have been a firing squad.

Jeffrey Lurie said 8-8 wouldn?t be good enough this season. Does that mean you?re gone?

Has Lurie assured you that you will be the coach for the remainder of the year?

How do you prevent the young players from developing a losing mentality?

Have you ever dealt with anything like this at any point in your career?

Someone should have offered him a cigarette and a blindfold.

While all this went down, Reid stood in front of the usual product placement. Behind him, there was a black sheet stamped with the Eagles logo and ?Ricoh,? one of the team?s corporate sponsors. Ricoh?s tagline ? two simple, appropriate words given the circumstances ? were also printed on the backdrop: ?Imagine. Change.?

Eagles fans everywhere have no doubt imagined change. And they will finally get it. This is it for Reid. This will be his last year as the head coach. It has to be. Everyone from Rittenhouse to Reading knows it.

What an inglorious end to his time in town.

Is there any sympathy for Reid considering his ineffable plight? Or are Philadelphians past that point? Has the overwhelming desire to dismiss the coach numbed the fan base to the pain and embarrassment he must feel?

The Eagles are 3-8. They are tied for last place in the NFC. They have lost seven straight games. The last time they had such a long losing streak was back in 1994. Rich Kotite, who is remembered as a bungler who couldn?t keep his play chart dry, was the head coach. That?s how horrible things have gotten for Reid. His coaching career now parallels, in small part, the disastrous conclusion to Kotite?s time here.

Reid is a far better coach than Kotite ever hoped to be. Whatever you think of Reid, that much is indisputable. The man has done a lot of good things for the organization.

And yet it is impossible to deny to that he is ultimately responsible for the issues that continue to plague this team week after unacceptable week. The underperforming players. The overmatched coaches. The curious, ineffective schemes. They can all be traced back to Reid. So much has gone wrong. It has all deteriorated so quickly. What happened?

?If I had that answer for you, it would have already been done,? Reid said at the NovaCare Complex on Monday.

He sounded deflated ? has for a while now. Like the rest of the area, Reid seems resigned to his fate. He is an obviously prideful man who is enduring a protracted public humiliation. It is hard to watch, even if the situation is a result of his actions and inactions.

Things have completely crumbled for Reid and the Eagles. You look around the league and it?s hard to believe how far the team has fallen. The Eagles? record lumps them with the likes of Carolina and Cleveland, Jacksonville and Kansas City. That is awful company. Call it the Club of the Clueless. The Eagles are members.

?Right now it?s not enough,? Reid said about the team?s effort. ?I can?t stand here and tell you it?s enough.?

Their performance has obviously not been enough. Not even close. It hasn?t been for some time.

At best, if they win all their remaining games ? a laughable fantasy ? they will finish with a .500 record. What an unceremonious and ignominious conclusion to Reid?s tour of duty in Philadelphia.

?I have the upmost respect for Andy,? Brent Celek said after the Panthers game. ?I think he is one of the greatest coaches around. I think we, as players, need to step up and start doing our jobs. I feel bad for him, because he is in a horrible situation in a town that is critical, and rightly so. If I were a fan, I would be mad too.?

There are plenty of people who are angry. They call radio shows and grouse on barstools and shake their fists without end. They have had their pitchforks sharpened for years, and now they get to skewer Reid repeatedly. With each game, the mob grows. There?s no stopping it.

Nothing lasts forever. The end had to come eventually for Reid. But who could have imagined it going down like this? Who could have anticipated that he would not only get kicked while he?s down but also stomped flat?

He makes a healthy salary. He?s a professional. But, at the moment, is there anyone in sports whom you?d rather be less than Andy Reid?

Flu Can Kill Quickly, Taking Lives of Healthy Children

In just eight months at his new school in Rifle, Colo., Austin Booth made a name for himself as a star athlete, honor student and a popular classmate with a promising future.

But within six days after he contracted the flu last January, Austin was dead. He was 17. His parents had never even considered giving a flu shot to their otherwise healthy teen.

"It was flu season and we knew other kids who were sick and we didn't think that much about it," said his mother, Regina Booth, 42. "He was a healthy teenager."

"He was just one of those kids that excelled at everything," she said. "And he was the type of kid who made friends instantly."

"It was pretty tough -- and it seems like just yesterday," said Booth, who is 38 weeks pregnant and now annually immunizes her four other children, aged 3 to 16.

"Now that we are expecting a new baby, it protects us and the baby," she said.

Debunking Four of the Most Common Flu Shot Myths

Between 3,000 and 49,000 Americans die of influenza each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.More than 200,000 are hospitalized annually with flu-related complications like pneumonia.

In the past four years, the CDC has changed its recommendations and now urges all Americans six months and older get a flu shot. Children under the age of 9, who are getting immunized for the first time, should get two doses, one month apart.

Booth said she still cannot believe how sudden her son's death was. On Tuesday night, he had started and played a full basketball game. By Wednesday night, he was coughing up blood and was rushed to the hospital with pneumonia.

"They intubated him as he struggled to breathe," said his mother. "It was the last time I talked to him."

His father Carl, who worked on an oil rig and couldn't be reached, was never able to see his son conscious again. Austin was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction and at first, doctors thought he would survive.

But soon, his condition got worse -- even on "every antibiotic in the world" -- and Austin had to be taken off the ventilator and manually "bagged." Tests showed the teen positive for the virulent infection MRSA.

"Doctor's said it was a perfect storm of pneumonia and MRSA," said Booth. "He fought Thursday until Monday, but it was more than his body could handle."

Hundreds of Austin's new friends showed up for his funeral. The basketball team retired his #2 jersey and Austin was recognized with a school bench and a memory stone.

"We had never gotten the flu shot -- not any of us," she said. "We thought, we don't need it, we are healthy. If we get the shot it will make us sick."

Dr. William Schaffner, professor and chairman of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, said that people are fooled into thinking that influenza, a serious respiratory infection, is just like a cold.

"People use the word 'flu' very casually to refer to a whole variety of winter illnesses, including a stuffy nose, and that tends to trivialize it," said Schaffner. "It is a serious viral infection -- it wreaks havoc on all the body's systems."

"Although it can be mild and often is, it is often very, very serious and can strike an otherwise normal child and put them in intensive care, usually within 48 hours."

The most serious complications occur among older people, but each year children die of the disease -- and "it's potentially preventable," according to Schaffner.

"While it is an imperfect vaccine, it is the best influenza vaccine at the present time," he said. Though it does not always prevent infection, because viruses change each year, it can "turn a more serious flu into a milder one, so you won't die."

With 120 million doses given each year in the U.S. alone, it is a "wonderfully safe" vaccine, whose only side effects can be a sore arm or, rarely, a day of fever. It cannot give a person the flu. "That's an urban myth," said Schaffner.

Court: 1-year suspension for Ohio St. case lawyer

(AP) ? The Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended for one year the law license of an attorney whose emails to Jim Tressel triggered an ongoing scandal and NCAA investigation that cost the football coach his job at Ohio State University.

At issue was whether Columbus attorney Christopher Cicero violated professional rules of conduct that prohibit revealing information from meetings with a client or a prospective client.

The 5-2 court decision followed the recommendation of a disciplinary board that argued Cicero wrongly discussed interviews with tattoo parlor owner Edward Rife, a potential client. However, the court overruled the board's recommendation for a six-month suspension.

Cicero sent emails to Tressel in April 2010, warning him that players were selling memorabilia or trading them for tattoos. The email traffic sparked the scandal and ended Tressel's Ohio State tenure.

An NCAA investigation also led to a bowl ban this year, reductions in scholarships and the loss of Ohio State's $389,000 share of the Big Ten bowl pot a year ago. The entire 2010 season also was vacated.

Ohio State just completed a 12-0 season and is ranked No. 4 in the AP poll.

Justice Judith Lanzinger said the case went to the heart of the importance of confidentiality between a prospective client and an attorney.

"Prospective clients trust that their confidences will be protected when they engage in an initial consultation with an attorney," Lanzinger wrote. "Cicero's almost immediate dissemination of the detailed information that Rife provided on April 15 directly violated that trust."

Justices Evelyn Lundberg Stratton and Terrence O'Donnell dissented, saying they would have imposed a six-month suspension.

"Cicero's intentions were not for personal aggrandizement or personal gain, as found by the majority, but were to alert the coach about misconduct by his players that could affect the team," Stratton wrote.

"His request that such information be held confidential does not support the notion that he was trying to seek fame," she said.

Cicero's lawyer said he was disappointed with the decision, saying he and his client had considered even a six-month suspension "a little harsh."

"We ended up losing for a year a really, really great lawyer who practices in a difficult area ? felony criminal law," said attorney John Gonzales.

He didn't know Cicero's plans for the year, adding they hadn't expected the decision so soon.

Cicero met with Rife on April 2, 2010, according to court documents, and again 13 days later to discuss whether Cicero would represent him in a federal drug trafficking case, according to a complaint against him by the Disciplinary Counsel of the Ohio Supreme Court.

Cicero, an Ohio State football player in the early 1980s, denied meeting with Rife on April 2. He said the two did meet on April 15, 2010, with the goal of confirming that Rife's partner, a former client of Cicero, wasn't involved with drug dealing or memorabilia sales.

Rife's house had been raided April 1 by federal drug investigators and Cicero wanted to know if Joseph Epling, his client and Rife's business partner, was involved in the case.

"Eddie Rife was never going to be my client in this case at all," Cicero told a three-member disciplinary panel at the Ohio Supreme Court last year. "I saw him as an ally and resource for Mr. Epling. That's how I viewed Mr. Rife's purpose in my office."

Rife pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering last year and was sentenced to three years in prison.

It was emails Cicero sent to Tressel in April 2010, warning him that players were selling memorabilia or trading them for tattoos, that helped launch the scandal.

In those emails, Cicero seemed to make it clear that he may have taken on Rife as a client.

"If he retains me, and he may, I will try to get these items back," Cicero wrote in an April 16, 2010, email.

"I have to sit tight and wait to see if he retains me, but at least he came in last night to do a face to face with me," Cicero wrote later that day.

Cicero and his attorneys argued the emails sent to Tressel were only meant to warn the coach about his players' actions and shouldn't be read as a breach of confidentiality, since ?they argued ? Rife was not a client.

Ohio's legal conduct rules generally prohibit attorneys from divulging any information they received from someone who might be a prospective client.

News of the memorabilia sales emerged in December 2010. In March 2011, the university discovered that Tressel had known about the sales since the previous April and said nothing. That was a violation of both NCAA rules and Tressel's contract, which required the prompt reporting of any knowledge of such player infractions. Tressel resigned under pressure in May 2011.

From Cancer-Scare Admission to ?Therapy? with David Letterman ...

It?s been a revelatory 48 hours for Oprah Winfrey fans, followers, and skeptics. On Monday, The New York Times published a sprawling profile on the media empress, revealing that Winfrey had undergone a breast-cancer scare so secret that she hadn?t even told her B.F.F., Gayle King. The same piece also reports that the former talk-show host continues to struggle with her cable network, OWN?now ?emerging from low ratings and management shake-ups??and has considered shutting down her print magazine, O, should it prove unprofitable. (To prevent the latter from happening, the media titan explained that she wants to target twentysomething readers rather than her current 49-year-old median reader . . . which might be difficult considering the tea-sandwich recipes and Suze Orman advice columns on retirement funds.) All in all, a humanizing piece?save for the detail about how she drinks sparkling water from a silver straw?that shows that the self-made billionaire is indeed fallible and even prone to under-eye circles.

The same day as the Times piece was published, the noticeably fatigued Winfrey traveled to David Letterman?s alma mater, Ball State University, in Indiana, for a oddly intimate discussion considering the forum (an auditorium), the host (Winfrey?s formerly estranged acquaintance, Letterman), and the audience (hundreds of college students who had camped out the night before). The conversation, which Winfrey later likened to therapy, began when Letterman, not known for his armchair analysis, asked her to tell him about Kosciusko, Mississippi, where she grew up. The chat took a turn for the serious when Winfrey began to describe the beatings she received as a child, her experiences being raped, and the child that she had at the age of 14. The candid discussion became so engrossing that when a Ball State professor appeared onstage to wrap things up, both Letterman and Winfrey waved her off and continued talking for a full 45 minutes.

Ironically, these same admissions may have been the kind of fodder that would have earned Oprah ratings gold on her former talk show. Alas, neither conversation was taped for television, only written about in another struggling media format?papers.

Preventing Diabetes: It's Easy, Says Expert Jennifer Spann ...

Preventing Diabetes: It?s Easy, Says Expert Jennifer SpannDiabetes is a serious health issue, which if treated late or is left untreated can result in devastating conditions. Where it is highly important to fight the same, the number of cases of diabetes is not less all over.

A recent report uncovered that diabetes can be prevented if one focuses on his or her lifestyle and concentrates on fighting pre-diabetes symptoms.

Jennifer Spann from Marietta, owner of Get in Shape for Women and health and fitness expert, says one of the highly common illnesses in the US can be fought by only focusing on your habits.

A results-oriented system is there, which focuses on a transformation model, segregated into four parts, including nutrition support, weight training, accountability and cardio. To explain in detail, she says that one should look at his eating habits.

She says the same should be healthy, since sodas and snacks-like poor diet leads to type2 diabetes. One should always remain active and should maintain good body weight along with getting R&R i. e. rest and relaxation.

"In addition to being better for you, water is essential for life and can help flush out excess waste and keep your body and skin healthy", Spann was cited as affirming.

Google hustles Android 4.2.1 onto Nexus devices to give you December back

Android 4.2 bug omits December from the People app

With the rollout of a major OS upgrade like Android 4.2, we can imagine it's easy to forget something, but Google's omission of the entire month of December in the People app was certainly a doozy. The beauty of the Nexus program is that Google can rectify little issues like that post-haste, however, and Mountain View has now rolled out Jelly Bean 4.2.1, a small update that adds back that all-too-important month. So far, Nexus 4 and 10 users have reported getting the update, according to XDA Developers, though there's no evidence yet of any other fixes. Check your Nexus device (or the source) to see if it's arrived in time for, you know.

132 online counterfeit sites seized in Cyber Monday blitz

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. and European authorities seized 132 domain names in a counterfeit goods crackdown linked to Cyber Monday, the online bargain day, the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.

ICE agents seized 101 domain names in the United States and 31 were taken over by officers in Britain, Romania, Belgium, France and Denmark and by Europol, the European Police Office, ICE Director John Morton said.

The sites, many linked to organized crime, were selling fake goods that ranged from National Football League jerseys and Nike Inc shoes to Adobe Systems Inc software, he said.

"There is much money to be made out there duping consumers and that is what is going on," Morton said on a conference call.

Investigations are ongoing and more sites will be seized in coming days.

In the United States, 41 rights owners' merchandise was being sold on the seized sites, Morton said.

ICE said in a statement that one U.S. arrest had been made.

The crackdown marks the third year that ICE has targeted websites selling counterfeit goods on Cyber Monday, the online shopping spree. It is the first time the agency has carried out the operation with European police.

The Cyber Monday seizures raise the total number of U.S. sites taken over to 1,630 since ICE began its anti-counterfeit campaign in June 2010.

PayPal accounts identified with the sites and holding a total of more than $175,000 are being targeted for seizure, the ICE statement said.

Morton put the scale of online piracy in the billions of dollars. Much of the online counterfeiting is in China and other parts of Asia, and U.S. authorities are working with China on the problem, he said.

Pick a Workout : : Critical Care 2011

A couple of most favored Beachbody workout plans are P90X and also Madness. I concluded p90x somewhat no less than last year (and also ?m lower to the small lines associated with P90X2) and also concluded half of Madness. (But plan to surmount the whole issue starting in of a 7 days). We are searching toward each items as well as have talked regarding the issue along with buddies, family members, co-workers, men and women on a regular basis whom request myself regarding change :) the point is, every person. The principal question We are always requested is ?WHAT Might Be The Brilliance Between P90X And also Madness?? As well for those people that have concerns regarding, next is often ?WHICH Fits ME??

The reaction on the foremost is a lot easier in comparison with next considering that the next cause would depend round the workout targets as well as the present health situation of the people asking. Therefore let?s reply greater question initial.

P90X is usually a muscle-building, entire body body fat warp speed workout which includes cardio exercise workout plans, even so their focus will get more efficient and also thinner. P90X will depend on the thought of Muscle tissue Distress. P90X modifications your workout each and every a month in order that the muscles do not grow to be used to your workout. Consequently, muscles are necessitating for you to constantly modify. Muscles Develop simply because they modify. (And females, you should not worry about turning out to be ?too muscular? : discover Instructor Very she is carried out P90X multiple occasions.

Madness is usually a cardio exercise intensive software which utilizes additional weight regarding resistance. Insanity?s technological advance is Maximum Interval training workout Workout routines Workout routines. Max Interval training workout Workout routines Workout routines is coaching extremely strongly along with small restoration smashes for you to inhale and also out and give your own pulse for you to decelerate somewhat, ahead of turning your strength look out upon greatest extent levels.

Make the most of Its superfit as well. He?s an excuse along with the workout plans are pleasant, however his / her software offers significantly less opportunity for jokes due to the strength. Numerous Shaun? catchphrases consist of ?Dig so much deeper!?, ?We excellent, ya?ll?? , ?Shaun Its beginning perspire!?and the most used ?That sh*t is berries!!?

I could to accomplish Madness through the couch and also couldn?t comprehensive the idea. I really might along with P90X. In my personal people that are merely ever coming back directly into health and fitness has to start along with P90X. You?ll be able to adjust ample to accomplish your workout and operate you to ultimately shape.

If you?re getting into good shape and also would like to fall entire body body fat quickly, In my opinion Madness is the thing that you would like. When it?s possible quickly fall a lot of bodyweight throughout P90X, Madness forces weight loss with all the strength needed. (When someone coatings either offered by a complete pizza, it?s not at risk of issue. Abs can be purchased in your kitchen place. Incidentally, each workout plans consist of diet regime that you simply need to comply with, as well. That?s a lot more a ?do when i feel that instead of after i do? idea.

If you?re searching to obtain more efficient, P90X could be our idea, however in addition, you?ll receive more efficient handling Madness.

In my opinion those two plans are great and also might suggest all of them. You will see movies associated with each workout plans the following. The UN/ITU respond to Google's #freeandopen campaign as the EU ...

An intergovernmental organisation, which few people have heard of, wants to take control over the management of the internet?potentially harming freedom of speech and increasing censorship, according to a chilling warning from Google.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) @ITU, an organ of the United Nations which consists of world governments and telcos, will be convened on December 3 2012 in what Google is calling a ?closed door meeting? to debate whether governance of internet (as distinct from the web) should be handed over to it.

The ITU contests this suggestion by Google?and says that a large number of ?private sector companies and civil society organizations have registered to attend [December?s conference],? ??according to the organisation?s Head of Communications and Partnership Promotion Division, Paul Conneally.

Calling its campaign #freeandopen, Google has set up an online petition, which it is encouraging users to sign, to protest against these changes to internet governance.

?Some of these governments are trying to use a closed-door meeting in December to regulate the Internet.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is bringing together regulators from around the world to re-negotiate a decades-old communications treaty.

Proposed changes to the treaty could increase censorship and threaten innovation.

Some proposals could permit governments to censor legitimate speech ? or even allow them to cut off Internet access.

Other proposals would require services like YouTube, Facebook, and Skype to pay new tolls in order to reach people across borders. This could limit access to information ? particularly in emerging markets.?

The company has released this infographic showing the growth of the internet since 1969.

Google says that the independence of the web is being increasingly threatened by governments; it says 42 countries filter content and in the past two years 19 new laws have been introduced which threaten internet freedom.

Google is not the only group which is resisting the potential move ? the European Parliament voted last week overwhelmingly in favour of a proposal which would see the 27 member states vote against the proposals. ?This is the second significant time in a year that the EU has contested changes to internet management.

Dutch MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Marietje Schaake was damming in her assessment of the potential outcomes should the ITU gain more powers over the management of the internet. ?She said;

?Some international telecommunications regulations reform proposals being presented by the ITU member states would negatively impact the internet, its architecture, operations, content and security, business relations, internet governance and the free flow of information online.?

Adding; ?the ITU?is not the appropriate body to assert regulatory authority over the internet.? ?Google and the EU look to be in agreement on this point; Google warns that the ITU should not be given control over the internet due to its lack of transparency;

?The ITU is the wrong place to make decisions about the future of the Internet.

Only governments have a voice at the ITU. This includes governments that do not support a free and open Internet. Engineers, companies, and people that build and use the web have no vote.

The ITU is also secretive. The treaty conference and proposals are confidential.?

The ITU says that it has gone through a ?very thorough and inclusive preparatory process? in the lead up to the conference. It added, ?We regret that Google did not take the opportunity to choose to join ITU as a member, which would have enabled it to participate in its own right in the WCIT-12 preparatory process?

Each of the EU?s 27 nation states are members of the ITU (193 nations in total are members of the organisation) and, following the vote in the EU Parliament, they will vote as one bloc against the measures granting more power to the ITU.

?[The European Parliament] calls on the Council to give a clear and transparent mandate to the Commission to coordinate a single EU strategy among Member States, aimed primarily at ensuring and preserving the openness of the internet, protecting the rights and freedoms of internet users online and coordinating the negotiation of the revision of the ITRs on behalf of the European Union, on the basis of inclusively gathered input from multiple stakeholders.?

Some measures that the ITU wants to enact, according to Google and the EU, would see companies being charged for providing content into certain jurisdictions.

Currently, several organisations from ICANN, to W3C, and private companies manage the development of the internet and the web in what?s called a Multi-stakeholder model. ?ICANN, the organisation which manages the development of DNS, IP, and other functions, describes its activities as;

?[one that] treats the public sector, the private sector, and technical experts as peers. In the ICANN community, you?ll find registries, registrars, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), intellectual property advocates, commercial and business interests, non-commercial and non-profit interests, representation from more than 100 governments, and a global array of individual Internet users. All points of view receive consideration on their own merits. ICANN?s fundamental belief is that all users of the Internet deserve a say in how it is run?

A blog post on the ITU?s website, tweeted by the UN yesterday, says that Google is mistaken and misleading in its belief that the organisation wants to control the internet. ?It says that the activities of the ITU are governed by several UN articles, including the Universal Declaration on Human Rights;

?The freedom of expression and the right to communicate are already enshrined in many UN and international treaties that ITU has taken into account in the establishment of its Constitution and Convention, and also its mandate by the Plenipotentiary Conference, which is the Supreme Organ of ITU. These treaties include Article 19 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

These Articles ? as well as Article 33 and 34 of the ITU Constitution ? clearly establish the right to communication and the limits that governments can impose on those rights.

Since the ITU Constitution prevails over the International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs), nothing in the ITRs has the power to result in a reduction of freedom to communicate.?

The ITU?s Paul Conneally added;
?We must keep the Internet open for business to sustain growth in the vast and inter-dependent global digital economy.?

The debate over the internet?s governance comes a year after Google and other technology companies began their campaigns against SOPA and PIPA.

On dying | Aurat - Matkopliza9s blog - Robinson Isidro3764's blog

Woody Allen once said ?I?m not afraid of death, I just don?t want to be there when it happens.?

There is no way to adequately deal with death.

Despite being the only predictability it always seems to hit? unexpectedly, haphazardly. Inevitable but anarchic, it turns your? stomach inside out, leaving disordered and painful ruminations on your? own existence and those close to you.

The passing of a cancer-stricken uncle earlier this year (in Pakistani parlance, a family friend) is the first time death feels as close as a cold breath.

A celebrated elderly surgeon, dealing with death was part of? Uncle?s business, but at 28 I had barely experienced it, too young to remember grandparents overseas.

Uncle?s wife loved poetry and would invite me to their beachfront? Sydney shire home as a university student. We?d chat about politics? and Pakistan. I?d listen to their globetrotting stories in exotic locations.

Aunty would talk about her next planned ?mushaira? or poetry night? where literary types would gather reciting urdu ghazals and melancholy prose.

A migrant, rising from working class ranks to excel in? medicine? and return to assist the country?s most needy, Uncle adjusted? effortlessly to his new life. Elegant, old fashioned, stern, dapper, organised and razor sharp, he had a pedantic meticulousness in manner? and dress that seemed reminiscent of a colonial drawing room.

Even on his deathbed he retained admirable social etiquette, chatting amiably with visitors, ordering doctors about and even neatly leaving a note on funeral arrangements the day he died.

The couple spoke the same Pakistani-dialect we did and childhood trips across Sydney to their palatial homes opened up a world of what was possible.

As I offered my Aunty condolences and apologies for not being there, moored interstate for work, it struck me how unprepared our generation was in dealing with death, and how far removed we were from the elegance and niceties of Uncle?s generation.

I watched in awe as family and community friends rallied, providing support, arranging a Quranic khatam where friends gathered to pray.

They went to hospital, attended the janaza funeral prayer at the mosque and finally saw the body buried at Rookwood cemetery.

Instead of awkward platitudes their assistance was immediate, anchored within the obligations of tradition and religion that provided ritual to deal with what my friends and I find uncomfortable to even speak about.

Even the notification of death is circumscribed in Islam, to be met with a prayer: Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajion, to God we come from and God we return.

As our lives become longer and more comfortable, as we shut our elderly in homes for remote death, dying is the last taboo, unspoken of and unwelcome, as we struggle to find words to comfort the grieving.

In the world of transient texts, virtual friendships and unanchored individuals with unlimited choice,? I was reminded of the importance of community, family and faith. The all-encompassing reassurances of the frailty of our humanity, that allow pain to be collectively shared and understood.

Pope elevates 6 cardinals to choose successor

VATICAN CITY (AP) ? Six new cardinals are joining the elite club of churchmen who will elect the next pope, bringing a more geographically diverse mix into the European-dominated College of Cardinals.

Pope Benedict XVI will formally elevate the six at a ceremony Saturday, bestowing red hats and gold rings on prelates from Colombia, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, the Philippines and U.S.

In explaining his choices for this "little consistory," Benedict said he was essentially completing his last cardinal-making ceremony held in February, when he elevated 22 cardinals, the vast majority of them European archbishops and Vatican bureaucrats.

The six new cardinals "show that the church is the church of all peoples and speaks in all languages," Benedict said last month. "It's not the church of one continent, but a universal church."

That said, the College of Cardinals remains heavily European even with the new additions: Of the 120 cardinals under age 80 and thus eligible to vote in a conclave to elect a new pope, more than half ? 62 ? are European. Critics have complained that the College of Cardinals no longer represents the church, since Catholicism is growing in Asia and Africa but is in crisis in much of Europe.

With the new additions, the College of Cardinals is a tad more multinational: Latin America, which boasts half of the world's Catholics, now has 21 voting-age cardinals; North America, 14; Africa, 11; Asia, 11; and Oceana, one.

Among the six new cardinals is Archbishop James Harvey, the American prefect of the papal household. As prefect, Harvey was the direct superior of the pope's former butler, Paolo Gabriele, who is serving an 18 month prison sentence in a Vatican jail for stealing the pope's private papers and leaking them to a reporter in the greatest Vatican security breach in modern times.

The Vatican spokesman has denied Harvey, 63, is leaving because of the scandal. But on the day the pope announced Harvey would be made cardinal, he also said he would leave the Vatican to take up duties as the archpriest of one of the Vatican's four Roman basilicas. Such a face-saving promotion-removal is not an uncommon Vatican personnel move.

Harvey's departure has led to much speculation about who would replace him in the delicate job of organizing the pope's daily schedule and arranging audiences.

Aside from Harvey, the new cardinals are: Abuja, Nigeria Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan; Bogota, Colombia Archbishop Ruben Salazar Gomez; Manila, Philippines Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle; Patriarch of Antioch of the Maronites in Lebanon, His Beatitude Bechara Boutros Rai; and the major Archbishop of the Trivandrum of the Siro-Malankaresi in India, His Beatitude Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal.

Cardinals serve as the pope's closest advisers, but their main task is to elect a new pope.

The six new cardinals are all under age 80. Their nominations bring the number of voting-age cardinals to 120, 67 of whom were named by Benedict, all but ensuring that his successor will be chosen from a group of like-minded prelates.

Saturday's consistory marks the first time in decades that not a single European or Italian has been made a cardinal ? a statistic that has not gone unnoticed in Italy. Italy still has the lions' share of cardinals, though, with 28 voting-age "princes" of the church.

(AP) ? Supporters and opponents of President Mohammed Morsi clashed Friday in the worst violence since he took office, while he defended a decision to give himself near-absolute power to root out what he called "weevils eating away at the nation of Egypt."

The edicts by Morsi, which were issued Thursday, have turned months of growing polarization into an open battle between his Muslim Brotherhood and liberals who fear a new dictatorship. Some in the opposition, which has been divided and weakened, were now speaking of a sustained street campaign against the man who nearly five months ago became Egypt's first freely elected president.

The unrest also underscored the struggle over the direction of Egypt's turbulent passage nearly two years after a popular uprising toppled Hosni Mubarak's authoritarian regime. Liberals and secular Egyptians accuse the Brotherhood of monopolizing power, dominating the writing of a new constitution and failing to tackle the country's chronic economic and security problems.

"I don't like, want or need to resort to exceptional measures, but I will if I see that my people, nation and the revolution of Egypt are in danger," Morsi told thousands of his chanting supporters outside the presidential palace in Cairo.

But even before he spoke, thousands from each camp demonstrated in major cities, and violence broke out in several places, leaving at least 100 wounded, according to security officials.

Security forces pumped volleys of tear gas at thousands of pro-democracy protesters clashing with riot police on streets several blocks from Cairo's Tahrir Square, birthplace of the Arab Spring, and in front of the nearby parliament building. Young protesters set fire to tree branches to counter the gas, and a residential building and a police vehicle also were burned.

Tens of thousands of activists massed in Tahrir itself, denouncing Morsi. In a throwback to last year's 18-day anti-Mubarak uprising, they chanted the iconic slogan first heard in Tunisia in late 2010: "The people want to overthrow the regime." They also yelled "erhal, erhal," ? Arabic for "leave, leave."

Outside a mosque in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, anti-Morsi crowds threw stones and firecrackers on Brotherhood backers who used prayer rugs to protect themselves, injuring at least 15. The protesters then stormed a nearby Brotherhood office.

State TV reported that offices of the Brotherhood's political arm were burned in the Suez Canal cities of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said, east of Cairo.

In the southern city of Assiut, ultraconservative Islamists and former jihadists outnumbered liberal and leftists in rival demonstrations. The two sides exchanged insults and scuffled briefly.

Morsi and the Brotherhood contend that supporters of the old regime are holding up progress toward democracy. They have focused on the judiciary, which many Egyptians see as too much under the sway of Mubarak-era judges and prosecutors and which has shaken up the political process several times with its rulings, including by dissolving the lower house of parliament, which the Brotherhood led.

His edicts effectively shut down the judiciary's ability to do so again. At the same time, the courts were the only civilian branch of government with a degree of independence: Morsi already holds not only executive power but also legislative authority, since there is no parliament.

His move came at a time when he was enjoying lavish praise from U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for brokering a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers on Wednesday. Clinton had been in Cairo for extensive talks with Morsi before the truce was announced.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, said in a statement that the edicts raise "concerns" for many Egyptians and for the international community, adding that the country's revolution had aimed in part to prevent too much power from being concentrated in one person's hands.

The U.S. urged "all Egyptians to resolve their differences over these important issues peacefully and through democratic dialogue," she said.

Amnesty International, the London-based rights group, said Morsi's new powers "trample the rule of law and herald a new era of repression."

Morsi aide Samer Marqous, a Coptic Christian, resigned to protest the "undemocratic" decree.

"Morsi's decision means dictatorship. He creates the law, passes the law, and oversees the law," said Manal Tibe, an activist who was a member of the assembly writing the new constitution until she withdrew earlier this year to protest the Islamists' domination of it. "He is the state and the state is him."

Mohamed ElBaradei, Egypt's most prominent reformer and a Nobel Peace laureate, warned that Morsi was making himself a "pharaoh" and appealed to him to withdraw the decrees "before the polarization and aggravation of the situation increases."

In his decrees, Morsi ruled that any decisions and laws he has declared or will declare are immune to appeal in the courts and cannot be overturned or halted. He also barred the judiciary from dissolving the upper house of parliament or the assembly writing the new constitution, both of which are dominated by the Brotherhood and other Islamists.

The edicts would be in effect until a new constitution is approved and parliamentary elections are held, which are not expected until the spring.

Morsi also declared his power to take any steps necessary to prevent "threats to the revolution," public safety or the workings of state institutions. Rights activists warned that the vague ? and unexplained ? wording could give him even greater authority than Mubarak had under emergency laws throughout his rule.

In his speech, Morsi warned of "weevils eating away at the nation of Egypt," and pointed to old regime loyalists he accused of using money to fuel instability and to members of the judiciary who work under the "umbrella" of the courts to "harm the country."

His supporters and other Islamists chanted, "The people support the president's decree!" and pumped their fists in the air.

"God will humiliate those who are attacking our president, Mohammed Morsi," said ultraconservative cleric Mohammed Abdel-Maksoud.

"Whoever insults the sultan, God humiliates him," he added.

The state media described Morsi's decrees as a "corrective revolution," and supporters cast them as the only way to break through the political deadlock over drafting the constitution.

Mustafa Kamel el-Sayyed, a Cairo University political science professor, said Morsi may be confident that the U.S. won't pressure him on his domestic moves.

"The U.S. administration is happy to work with an Islamist government (that acts) in accordance with U.S. interests in the region," including preserving the Egyptian-Israel peace deal, he said.

With his decrees, Morsi was playing to widespread discontent with the judiciary. Many ? even Brotherhood opponents ? contend Mubarak-era judges and officials failed to prosecute the old regime's top officials and security forces strongly enough for crimes, including the killing of protesters.

Morsi fired the controversial prosecutor general and created "revolutionary" judicial bodies to put Mubarak and some of his top aides on trial a second time for the killings. Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison for failing to stop police from shooting at protesters, but many were angry he was not found guilty of actually ordering the crackdown during the uprising.

Some among Egypt's liberal, leftist and secular forces saw the edicts as an opportunity to galvanize an opposition that has been chronically fragmented.

Sameh Makram Obeid, a leader in the liberal Dustour Party, said Morsi's declarations are a "blessing" because they energized his opponents.

"The solution is civil disobedience," he said, echoing other activist leaders. "The separation of powers is gone completely."

"We are in a state of revolution. He is crazy if he thinks he can go back to one-man rule," said one protester in Tahrir, Sara Khalili.
