The college football season seems like it has only just begun in many areas of the country, but in other areas, the end cannot come soon enough. For teams such as Oregon, Kansas State, and Notre Dame, the sooner the season can end the better as all three teams look to take undefeated records to a national championship game.
The Ducks and the Wildcats are currently in the best position to meet for the title. Notre Dame would need to run the table and have one of the teams in front of them lose to make it to the BCS championship.
Oregon and Kansas State will both face difficult tests today. Kansas State goes on the road to face a Baylor team that is thinking upset. The Wildcats are favored by 12.5, a number that has underdog gamblers wondering about the possibilities. The Wildcats will have their starting quarterback, and Heisman Trophy candidate, Collin Klein under center in an attempt to avoid the upset.
Oregon may have even a tougher task. The second ranked Ducks will face 13th ranked Stanford. If the Ducks can survive Stanford, the only thing between them and the championship game will be a likely meeting with USC in the Pac Ten title game. The Ducks have an explosive offense, but have been dealing with mounting injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
Two teams that will not be playing for a national title will meet in Wisconsin, where the Badgers host Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a perfect season going of their own, but are ineligible for postseason play dating to sanctions imposed by the NCAA. With a young team, Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer is touting the Wisconsin game as the Buckeyes bowl game, although a match-up with rival Michigan still looms on the schedule.
In the ACC, the Atlantic division will be determined by a pair of afternoon games. Florida State, the leader in the division by virtue of a victory over Clemson, will travel to Maryland to face the Terrapins. The Tigers will host North Carolina State. An FSU win or a Clemson loss would give the division title to the Seminoles. FSU is favored by 31, while the Tigers are 16.5 point favorites over the Wolfpack.
